Munich... markets and beer

Wednesday morning dawned sunny and cool ( -6C).  Nanna said she wasn't going anywhere till it warmed up but the lure of the markets got her out.  Arrived at the Marienplatz just in time for the 12 O'clock performance by the figures on the cathedral.  Some go round, others dance and two knights joust.  Very popular with the crowds, especially when one knight cleans up the other late in the show.

Some keen christmas shoppers at work searching for the best trinkets

These cherub things were cool slaying various snakes, dragons and lions.  Unfortunately one looked a bit like a rooster but we figured it probably was a dragon and if not they needed some chicken dinner after all the slaying.
Felt shoes seem to be popular and how do you make your pair stand out from the rest...simple....

 More of those two shoppers

Can't leave Munich without a visit to the worlds most famous beer house...the Hofbrauhaus.  Really crowded but Nanna managed to snag a seat
The waiter frowned when Aunty Jan asked for a diet coke and made some comment about this being a beer house.  Nanna asked for a coffee and he literally hung his head.  Fortunately I saved the day and ordered a beer.  Luckily the glass was big enough for three people.

The must have for any beer hall ...an oompah band
Nanna and Aunty Jan after being kicked out for not drinking beer.
So it was back to the markets
Spotted this church on the way home.  Not sure what style this is but it doesn't leave anything out.

Finally, took a bunch of pictures of gargoyles from the cathedral and put them together (click on the photo to get it full size if you want detail)......

Off to Innsbruck tomorrow and unless it is approaching absolute zero we might go up the cable car
